Based on logs generated today from voting failures we are working on a system that will redirect to a secure connection if a proxy is detected. This will allow those with advanced (proxying) local Internet security software to vote via ssl, and still prevent proxy voting.

I hope to have this solution deployed withing the next 24 hours. (Pending getting an SSL cert for JoinUO)

Update: Some proxy sites we tested supported HTTPS (SSL), so we've gone with another solution. If you fail the proxy test, you will need to log in to vote. (Or already be logged in)

Please don't hesitate to report any further troubles, and thanks again for your support of JoinUO!

Thanks, I will take a look and try to figure out what's causing this. The proxy detection is a bit more advanced that it was previously. I'll do my best to replicate this problem and hopefully fix it.

I'm using CA Security Center but I was able to vote prior to the website changes for JoinUO on this computer, which runs Windows 7. The Security Center settings have it 'automatically detect proxy settings.'

Other computer I have is running Windows Vista and I get the same message on that one, also able to vote prior to the web change, also using Explorer 8.

I do not have another browser to try it with.

This may be related to anti virus software. Can you send me a list of what you are running for software, either here or via a PM. I think Norton Internet Security may cause this. Also, if you have another browser (like FireFox) can you see if you can vote with it?

I'm running IE8 primarily as well and have not had this problem. I use Avast antivirus.

Some security software may act as a proxy, which may be causing this issue.

Hello, thanks for that information, I was able to import shard settings etc and update my links.

When I go to vote clicking the button from the website, I get the following response:
'Voting requires a modern browser and may not be done via an anonymous web proxy.
Continue to shard list."

I'm running Explorer 8 and haven't changed any settings on it. I know the idea is to prevent fraudulent voting. So any suggestions on what settings I need to look into to fix the anonymous web proxy thing so I can resume voting please? I am not familiar with proxy stuff, would that be a web browser related thing or something isp related?

Thanks for any assistance.

This should be fixed. In the "My Shards" section, you should now see a link: "[Click here to import a shard created under the old accounting system..]"
Click that, choose the name of your existing shard and enter to old user name and password (the account created when you added the shard to JoinUO), and hit submit. You'll then be able to edit the shard, and retrieve the new vote and counter html code.

Thanks. Trying to find out what's causing this. The My Shards section is where you would import your existing shard into your forum account. If that page is giving you an error you won't be able to inport it...

If anyone else has seen this happen, or if they have been able to import their existing shard without issue, please post.

Hello,
The new website looks great, but I'm having some problems. I can log onto the forum but not onto my shard settings. On the forum side I'm not seeing anywhere to access my shards information.
When I hit the link to go to 'My Shards' on the website, after logging in on the forum, I get this following error.

Code:: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

I'm sorry if I'm not seeing something but please advise. I'm needing to update my voting link etc, currently I'm unable to vote. I get a message saying I need a newer browser, I'm running Explorer 8, and something about a web proxy, which I've never changed any settings for that so not sure what is needed there.

Thanks guys! Was a long road to get it done. I'll be trying to put a bit of effort into getting us better traffic (although we're not bad right now). Hopefully we can grow the community some, maybe even get these boards more active
